An SBR operates by filling a single tank, treating the water, letting it settle, and then pumping it out. It repeats this process in steps. To handle the wild morning and evening spikes, we always install a flow equalization tank before the SBR system. This equalization tank acts like a giant shock absorber. It holds the sudden rush of kitchen and laundry water and feeds it into the SBR system at a slow, steady rate.

The Four Steps of an SBR Batch Cycle
1. Fill Phase
Wastewater enters the tank from the equalization buffer. The tank mixes the new waste with the existing live bacteria culture.
2. React Phase
Air is pumped into the tank. This gives the bacteria plenty of oxygen to quickly eat and break down the organic waste and kitchen grease.
3. Settle Phase
The air blowers turn off. The tank becomes completely still, allowing all the heavy sludge to sink to the bottom naturally.
4. Decant Phase
A clean water arm pumps the clear top layer of water out of the tank, leaving the heavy sludge layer at the bottom for the next round.
